This year's South By Southwest Music Festival will be getting a heavy, rockin' dose of the Kansas City and Lawrence music scene. The MidCoast Takeover -- a huge collaborative effort by local label the Record Machine, the Midwest Music Foundation and local venues such as the RecordBar, the Riot Room and Crosstown Station, among others -- will present Austin with a spectacular array of more than 20 of the best bands from the middle of the country.
The event, which began as the Midwasteland Takeover at last year's SXSW, is a labor of love from our local scene's most emphatic supporters and is sure to represent Kansas City (and Lawrence) with a level of professionalism that will help get local musicians national exposure and support. But the MidCoast Takeover needs a little help from you doting fans of local music. You can go to their Kickstarter page here to read more about the project and make a donation to the cause. Money collected will go toward staging, lighting and production costs, and all pledges come with a host of benefits (based on pledge level), including CDs, merch loot and poster prints by Eric Lindquist.
SXSW goes down March 18 and 19, and for any of you readers attending the festival this year, be sure to check out the MidCoast Takeover at Liberty Bar, 1618½ E. Sixth Street.
