NASCAR isn't exactly something that people associate with the skinny-jeans-wearin' hipster crowd. But when Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., an electronic pop and folk outfit from Detriot, Michigan, started popping up on buzz feeds last year, the industry was intrigued by their obsession with all things car- and racing-related. Donning racing suits and helmets onstage with a neon American flag glowing in the background, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. is a strange but refreshing anomaly in an otherwise fairly derivative scene.
The duo will kick off a tour with Minnesota rockers Tapes 'n Tapes on Friday, March 4, at the Jackpot Music Hall in Lawrence. It should be a night of high energy and enough cheap beer to make Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans proud. Check out a video of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. performing "Vocal Chords" live on KEXP after the jump.
