That's right, the former host of Reading Rainbow, the star of Sister Act and the man behind Top Gun's theme song are indeed scheduled to make appearances in Kansas City soon. And at least as far as the first two are concerned, if you're willing to spend the money, you could enjoy a meal in their vicinity.
First on our menu of star experiences is Levar Burton. On February 18, he'll nosh and mingle with patrons of the Storling Dance Theater production Underground at Johnson County Community College's Carlsen Center.
Dinner with Burton + orchestra seats at the performance costs $100. Add an extra $100 for access to a VIP reception. (Read: more face time with Star Trek: The Next Generation's Geordi La Forge -- will he wear the glasses?)
Next up is an evening with Whoopi Goldberg. The extremely experienced celebrity host is lending her skills to Kids Night Out, an annual Boys and Girls Club benefit happening March 4 at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center.
Access to that pre-party, dinner and auction is gonna run you at least $300.
If supporting the arts and underprivileged kids, plus the chance to get close to a celebrity sounds like a fun trip to the danger zone of your limited finances, allow Kenny Loggins to meet you halfway.
He's playing a benefit concert at the Midland Theater on June 16 for which individual tickets will start at $49. The UMB Big Bash, as it's called, is a fundraiser for the Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture and Reach Out and Read Kansas City.
You might not get to dine with Loggins (although the event's schedule does apparently include a meal of local foods) but you should stake out a spot in the front row and raise your Boulevard high when he breaks into "Footloose."
