We'd hate for you to miss out on all the awesome that happens every weekend, so we've decided to run down five of the best shows in one easy-to-swallow post, with video and audio. Tell us -- and the rest of the world -- what we missed in the comments.
This weekend, Ke$ha slops slime and glitter all over the Midland. (It was sold-out at the Uptown, but the show was moved, and more tickets were released -- and she sold it out again. Scary, eh?) Motörhead revs its engine at the Midland tonight with self-proclaimed Venusians Valient Thorr. A slew of local musicians come together in exile for a Rolling Stones Tribute; and Thee Oh Sees play with our local 'thee' band, Thee Water Moccasins, at The Granada. Local rock band Dirtnap may have bit the dust awhile ago, but they're back at it at Crosstown Station this weekend, too.
1. Ke$ha
Sunday, February 20. Doors open at 8 p.m.
Why you should go: Ke$ha sold out two of Kansas City's largest venues aside from the Sprint Center. This show -- and this crowd -- will be like watching a car accident: you just can't tear your eyes away.
Listen:
2. Motörhead
With Clutch and Valient Thorr
Midland
Thursday, February 17. Doors at 8 p.m.
$9.89
Why you should go: Aside from the über-cheesy $9.89 price tag (wait -- are they referencing a radio station?!), tickets that cheap to a show that will rock this hard are ridiculous. Lemmy is more than just a hunk of metal history: he's a rare figure in rock and roll that swaggers this hard, and means it.
Listen:
3. Exile on Main Street: A Tribute to the Rolling Stones
Crosstown Station
Friday, February 18. Doors at 9 p.m.
$12-$15
Why you should go: This tribute promises to bring together over 30 musicians from Kansas City's music scene in order to honor the Rolling Stones' masterpiece, Exile on Main Street. Watch some of our best vocalists and instrumentalists riff on this piece of rock history.
Listen:
4. Thee Oh Sees
With Dactyls
Spooklights
Thee Water Moccasins
The Granada
Friday, February 18. Doors at 9:00 p.m.
$8; $10 at the door
Why you should go: We named Thee Oh Sees one of the best shows of 2010. A strong local bill of assorted flavors of punk rounds out the night: pop-punk from the Dactyls, fuzzy, funky punk from Spooklights, and spaced-out, hazy punk from Thee Water Moccasins.
Thee Oh Sees
5. Dirtnap
With the Slowdown
Crosstown Station
Friday, February 18. Doors at 9 p.m.
Why you should go: Dirtnap is one of Kansas City's older rock acts that helped form Kansas City's signature sound in the early '90s. Now, the band reunites once a year when the original lineup is reunited. Drummer Pete LaPorte will fly in from San Francisco to rock Crosstown Station with some of the old crew.
