The Sonic Spectrum Tribute Series: Neil Diamond
Sunday, March 20, 2011
RecordBar
The third installment of the Sonic Spectrum Tribute Series hit RecordBar last night, and much like its previous two successors, the event brought out the best local talent channeling influential rock and roll. This time the honoree was Neil Diamond, the singer-songwriter master who was just recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The local musicians contributing to the tribute this time were local songwriter Chad Rex (who took the stage with a special guest accordion player), rock trio Claque (whose set highlight was a rousing rendition of "Girl You'll Be a Woman Soon" with the Grisly Hand's Kian Byrne on the violin), David George (who got the audience to clap and sing along to "Cherry Cherry" after accidentally dropping his lyric sheets on the floor), and Free Band Radio (the only band to pull out the sequined, sunglassed Neil Diamond costumes -- and also the only band to dare the Neil Diamond staple "Sweet Caroline").

How about a tribute night to a punk or post punk band or album?? The Damned, The Fall, The Stranglers perhaps?? That would be interesting .
I see why they call KC a cowtown. Last weekend in St Louis-----Chuck Berry at the Pageant Theatre, Hugh Cornwell (ex Stranglers front man) at Off Broadway, Dexter Romweber (ex Flat Duo Jets) , all performing. But KC had another album/artist tribute show.-------LAME!!!
