After four years and two EPs, the Lawrence and Kansas City indie-pop duo Hidden Pictures is releasing its debut full-length album, Synchronized Sleeping. With a host of local contributors and a fresh set of buttery-smooth, brightly colored alt-pop numbers, Richard Gintowt (formerly of OK Jones) and Michelle Sanders have fashioned a tightly polished album perfect for sunny days on a porch with a glass of lemonade. They'll be releasing it just in time for the coming of spring, with a show on April 1 at the Brick.
Synchronize Sleeping features the help of a number of the area's best musicians, including Ghosty drummer Josh Adams, singer-songwriter extraordinaire Erik Voeks (who recently joined Hidden Pictures' live lineup on bass), and Nate Harold of the Get Up Kids. Fans of Gintowt's trademark smooth vocals are in for an extra-special treat, too: By purchasing the album on the band's bandcamp site, fans will also receive a copy of Stealing Dan, a revamped working of six long-lost OK Jones songs from 2006-07. And as someone who remembers the sun-kissed days of OK Jones, I can attest that it's quite a local music treat.
