Vice Magazine has largely faded into the muddy backwash of the last decade's more obnoxious bouts of hipsterdom; but they're still unleashing Do's and Don'ts on unsuspecting members of the population as we speak. Among them: Lawrence's Hospital Ships. The magazine recently named Lonely Twin, Hospital Ships' new record out on June 7, the "worst album of the month."
Here's what they said:
I was back at my folks' house over the holidays watching TV with my dad when an ad for Martin Lawrence's latest opus Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son came on. My dad watched in complete silence, then, staring straight ahead, murmured, "Black people and white people will never understand each other." I feel this way about the East Coast and the Midwest, and this record is my Big Momma's House.
I haven't heard the release yet, but based on this criticism, I can say one thing. Sadly, Vice, it seems that the misunderstanding only goes one way: I'm reading your snide, faux-Williamsburg pretense loud and clear.

How many of you have actually heard the album? I mean, Jordan is a whiny little bitch, but I don't know that means the entire album sucks.
When I lived in New York, I lived in Harlem, but I know a lot of rich people live in Park Slope, so I hope you're right! Thanks everyone for the comments.
I was in the worst KC band of the 90s that put out two really bad CDs---We played Americana music---can you guess our name??
Not surprising, Hospital Ships definitely not for the Vice crowd, too whiny/boring.
I can see the Park Slope connection as far as Hospital Ships' sound; but I still think that Vice is reppin' Billyburg circa 2005 pretty damn hard these days.
I like Hospital Ships and I support local music but I am not surprised that Vice hate this album. It isn't their style of music. Its way too pretty sounding and sentimental (sometimes I can't take that kind of stuff in high doses). I wouldn't take anything they say too seriously because THEY don't take themselves too seriously. Also, they don't represent Williamsburg, or Greenpoint or any other part of Brooklyn (although I would say that Hospitals ships are more for the "park slope" crowd).
opinions are like assholes: i want nothing to do with other people's assholes. jordan and company are a wonderful band and probably should take pleasure in the fact that these jokers don't get it. PLAY ON DUDES!
Like most excuses for music criticism these days, this "review" tells you more about the quirks and prejudices of the reviewer than anything about the music. Almost as if they're desperately hoping they can scare you into not listening to it and forming your own opinion.
