You know the worry you feel after you discover your favorite bar has changed management? You try and convince yourself that there's no way the new bar manager could muss the sanctity of "your bar," but you know very well that there are many ways things can go topsy-turvy.
Well, Czar Bar lovers: Don't fret about the bar's new management. The fellas behind the Riot Room have taken the helm of Czar (they've dropped the bar), and are making some changes that should improve the joint.
The Pitch: Why did you decide to buy the Czar Bar?
Adam Compo: Well, the short answer to that is, because. The long answer would be, because we are looking to expand to other avenues and get involved in different aspects of the community.
Why the name change to Czar?
We personally didn't like having "bar" in the name, and we wanted to distance ourselves from the previous operation.
Any significant changes with what drinks are available?
We have already started bringing in new craft beer and more upscale liquor, and we are planning to expand on that and offer a far range of cocktails and craft beers.
I know you have some food plans. What kind of food will be offered, and will there be any changes to the dining room?
We have plans to serve food, but the menu is not set. As far as what it will be, we're trying to describe it as next level. I realize that's vague, but basically bar food but more exciting. Not necessarily fine dining, but dishes that you wouldn't necessarily see in a bar, but more accessible. We have a team of three guys that are working on the menu items.
I know that there were a few booths before and a bar. Any plans on changing that? Changing up the color?
We definitely plan to liven up the place.
What kind of music do you plan on booking at Czar?
Genrewise, I think we're generally going to try and avoid heavy metal and things that are less accessible to people, but we definitely want to continue to work with the people who have been doing entertainment down there.
How will you split the managing duties between Riot and Czar?
We have hired a close friend of ours to take over a lot of the managerial duties at the Riot Room, but basically we're all just hustling.
Anything else you'd like to add?
Once the kitchen is fully operational, we plan on doing a soft opening and then a grand opening. We want people to come down and check it out, see some of the changes we've made.
Showing 1-13 of 13
Here is a wild idea. Maybe lets NOT have 19 bars trying to book 4 bands a night on a Tuesday in KCMO? That might have something to do with the inability to keep a club open, pay bills, or pay bands anything meaningful.
The new site is http://www.czarkc.com. We are honoring the majority of previously booked events.
Well I'll be there June 11th for the Prof show. Like Excited said, if the Riot Room people are running it, should be good.
New webesite is czarkc.com jkcmo so ya know all the old acts are honored til first of June I believe, Friedman I'm behind that derned bar now come in and just reference your screen name and the first drink is on me sir, if I make you wait for booze in a dream i'll wake up and apologize :).
The new site is http://www.czarkc.com. We are honoring the majority of previously booked shows & adding more everyday.
does this mean that the current acts that were scheduled are still playing? tried looking at the website, but looks like it's down to non-payment.
I think he's saying they are not going to do metal like at the Riot Room. He said they are going to be working with a lot of the same entertainment.
The Riot Room guys are great so I have no doubt they will take things to a new level at Czar. Happy to have them in the Crossroads!
"and things that are less accessible to people"
Wasn't that 95% of Czar bar's musical acts? That's a shame.
