This band knows how to make an entrance. Former Interpol bassist Carlos Dengler, known to sport a gun holster under a slickly tailored suit, was the face of the fashion-forward quartet since Turn on the Bright Lights galloped out of the gates in 2002 with alarming success. Though he left the group in May of last year (taking his fascist-friendly gear with him), Interpol is still a force to be reckoned with.
The band, known for its role in the post-punk revival of the early '00s, which turned a whole new generation on to Joy Division, released its fourth album late last year. That self-titled disc is the group's further foray into shoegaze, replete with large-scale ambient noises that overlay the band's signature stinging melodies and shoe-tapping bass lines. Opening is the breathless, crystalline Brooklyn band School of Seven Bells, whose euphoric atmospheric distortion should counterbalance Interpol's sinister disaffection beautifully.
