It's been a handful of years since The Golden Republic -- one of the biggest indie super-bands to come out of the area since the late 1990s -- split up and went their separate ways. Lead singer Ben Grimes keeps the local scene fresh with his new band Soft Reeds, drummer Ryan Shank slays the skins in both Roman Numerals and Be/Non, and guitarist Kenn Jankowski is best-known these days for his newest indie incarnation, the Republic Tigers.
Originally formed in 1999 under the name the People by cousins Ben Grimes and Ryan Shank, they were joined by Jankowski and bassist Harry Anderson, and the Golden Republic eventually signed to Astralwerks Records. They released one album and completed successful national tours before eventually splitting in 2006. Whatever bad blood may have existed then is certainly gone now, and a Golden Republic reunion wouldn't be far out of the question.
