Are the wood chips at Crossroads KC at Grinders no more?

Hmm. We noticed that concrete seems to be replacing the infamous wood chips at Crossroads KC behind Grinders at 18th and Oak. Could the Crossroads' outdoor venue be undergoing a bit of a face-lift?

Here's another take. What do you think?

They are just expanding the back patio to make more room for outside tables and redoing the wood chips. They are not replacing the wood chips with a concrete surface.

Maybe they are just putting down new woodchips and the concrete has always been there...

Concrete would absorb heat from the sun all day and release it in the evening which isn't quite what you want during the summer concert season. It's probably because they are hosting things now like Taste of the Crossroads.

I liked the wood chips. Easier on the back standing in them all night compared to concrete (although they can hurt the toes if you're wearing flip flops). Also better for letting the dog run around when sitting outside drinking a beer at Grinders on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

At least the wood chips were permeable. Bad move.

Disappointing. Wood chips can be difficult to walk in, but why couldn't they just keep a lawn? It was a nice touch to an outdoor venue surrounded by a concrete jungle.
