Weekend news bits:
-- Keep your dirty money in your wallets, guys. Diddy Dirty Money cancelled a May 14 performance at the Midland. Refunds are available at point-of-purchase locations.
-- Get your air guitars tuned and ready. Midwest Mayhem is about to get way, uh, mayhem-y. The U.S. Air Guitar tour will stop in Kansas City, Missouri, on Thursday, May 19, at Crosstown Station. The show is at 8 p.m. The three-person celebrity judging panel will be headed by 2008 World Champion Hot Lixx Hulahan. Romeo Dance Cheetah will perform halfway through the show. Here's a bit more information about what to expect on May 19:
"A qualifying heat held in January at the KC Rock and Metal Fest at the Uptown Theater saw two KC air guitarists make their way into the May 19 competition by beating all comers during the two-night festival. A man with a business suit and a mobile phone bigger than Gordon Gekko's stock portfolio who calls himself The CorpAIRation won on night one, while fifty-something KC legend Johnny Rokker brought the heat, winning night two. Both are automatically registered to compete on May 19.
Other local air enthusiasts expected to enter on May 19 are hyperactive 2010 Las Vegas air guitar champ Mean Melin and the mysterious performance artist Peter 'Stiff' Dickens, who has been called on more than one occasion 'the Andy Kaufman of air guitar.'"
Here's a video of Romeo Dance Cheetah's round-one performance in 2010.
-- "A Cappella superstars" Straight No Chaser will perform at the Midland on October 23 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, May 4, at 10 a.m.
