Huzzah to Lawrence, Kansas', Hospital Ships (and Lawrence in general): NPR recently featured the Lawrence band and said, "It's the ability to meld optimism and despair that makes Hospital Ships so winning." The news website gave high praise to the Lawrence music scene, too.
Here are some other music-related items:
-- Connie Dover, guitarist Kevin Hiatt, percussionist Alluadin Ottinger, and saxophonist C. Grant Maledy will perform on Sunday, May 22, at 3 p.m. at the Rime Tibetan Buddhist Center (700 West Pennway). The show, An Independent World of Music, will benefit the Rime Buddhist Center. Donations will be accepted at the door ($10 suggested).
-- Everyday/Everynight recently announced a tour (they'll play June 5 at RecordBar) and their third full-length album, etc. (May 17, pre-orders available now). More information about both can be found at Popwreckoning.
-- Get your sad faces ready. Channel 6 Lawrence news reported that Lawrence, Kansas, bar, the Gaslight, caught fire around 6 p.m. Friday evening. This little Lawrence bar (emphasis on little) is going to need some patching up. Jake Lickteig, the bar's owner, was quoted as saying, "It's going to affect me hard. There's not a lot of financial backing here; it's just me and my friends." Here's hoping that Lickteig and friends are able to get the Gaslight going again. It would break my bar-lovin' heart if the bar went kaput after this unfortunate event.
