Hearts of Darkness and SUNU bring the afro-funk state-line showdown Saturday

Kansas and Missouri will go head-to-head this month -- but it will have nothing to do with sports teams clad in red-and-blue or gold-and-black. Kansas City's funkmasters Hearts of Darkness play host to SUNU, an afro-funk outfit from Lawrence, at Davey's Uptown later this month. And we expect that this funky showdown will be considerably more friendly than those other collegiate-rivalry drunk fests.

In a city where the afro-beat, jazz-funk, shake-your-ass variety of the musical stage experience can sometimes be hard to come by, the Hearts of Darkness reigns supreme. Thus, it's a special treat for Kansas City to play host to another band dedicated to the mixing of world and dance genres via live horns, poppin' bass lines, and down and dirty drum beats. And with the whole thing going down at Davey's Uptown, you can be sure it will be a cheap, drunk and sweaty affair you won't want to miss.

Catch Hearts of Darkness with SUNU Saturday, May 21, at Davey's Uptown Ramblers Club. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. For more information, see the Facebook event page here.
