Ghosty, Minden and the Dead Girls are in for Sonic Spectrum's Beach Boys tribute

Surf's Up.
  • Surf's Up.
Since January, Robert Moore's Sonic Spectrum Tribute Series has been chugging along at a nice monthly pace. So far, the list of artists honored by KC musicians has included Bowie, Chrissie Hynde, Neil Diamond, and the Replacements. Up next: the Beach Boys.

It's happening Sunday, June 26, and local faves Ghosty, Minden and the Dead Girls are lined up for the show, with a few other acts TBA. I haven't seen Minden yet, but Ghosty's gentle melodicism and the Dead Girls' classic-rock fetish make them ideal candidates to mine that gloriously rich back catalog. Crossing my fingers that somebody will dust off some deep cuts -- 20/20 or some of those '70s solo records, maybe -- but if it's all Pet Sounds and surf songs, I still consider that a pretty solid evening of entertainment.

Oh boy ... here come the waterworks.

I insist on a rendition of "I Wanna Pick You Up" from Love You, complete with solo vocal choir "Pat, pat, pat pat pat her on her butt, butt..."
