The third, and final, installment of Mark Lowrey's popular pianist-meets-hip-hop event, Mark Lowrey vs. Hip Hop, goes down tonight at Crosstown. But fret not: Lowrey says he'll continue to work with hip-hop musicians in the future. Here's the lowdown on tonight's show.
The series pits Lowrey with his signature multi-keyboard set-up (which generally features toy pianos, organs, and a smattering of special noisemakers) on the same stage as some of Kansas City's best hip-hop artists -- local bigwigs such as Reach, Les Izmore, Sephiroth and Vertigone. On hand as usual to round out the jazz side of things are Brandon Draper on the skins and trumpet impresario Hermon Mehari, while the third sound dimension of the evening comes courtesy of Leonard DStroy on the turntables.
