Yes, you can catch Lawrence band Fourth of July playing gigs in and around town anytime of the year. But why not catch the band on the day after which it is named? It just seems right.
The Pitch: You guys play somewhere in Lawrence, Kansas, every year on the Fourth, correct?
We sure do! At the Replay Lounge in the heart of Lawrence, in the heart of America.
The show is three bucks, correct?
Yeah! Fourth of July understands Americans are having a hard time right now, so we decided to only charge three bucks. Also, the Replay is always three bucks.
Are you close with any of the other musicians in the line-up? (I've got to assume so, Lawrence being a tightknit town and all.)
We are all friends. We like to mix up who we play with to keep it fun. It's the Traveling Junipers' first show ever, and JabberJosh just rocks. A little something for everyone.
I assume the holiday show is a blast. I'm always out of town (except for this year!) so I don't know, but is the crowd larger because it's a holiday show or is it smaller?
It has been packed every year so far. This year will be the test because it's on a Monday night.
What's your favorite post-Fourth of July show ritual?
Go back to the Bullhouse and raise hell.
Have any special holiday plans before or after the show?
My friend Priest Fontaine is coming in from New York and organizing the Heart of America Conference 2011. It is kind of an all-weekend thing that includes strip clubs, group photos at the city dump, a party bus, fireworks, nude life drawing, live music, wet T-shirt contest, wet underwear contest, and chaos.
Some holiday silliness: favorite Fourth of July grilling meat? Alcoholic beverage? Firework?
My friend the Stickman's hot wings! Bud Heavy! The redneck rocket launcher!
Is there anything new coming up for you guys? Tour, new music, new tricks?
We are working on recording a new album. We will be playing a lot of new songs at this show. We also have awesome new shirts and tons of vinyl!
