HR of Bad Brains returns to Lawrence

It's taken almost 16 years, but HR, frontman of DC hardcore legends Bad Brains, is finally welcome in Lawrence again. For those of you not hip to the story, Bad Brains reformed their original lineup to record 1995's God of Love. Touring in support of that record, the band played a show at the Bottleneck on July 20, 1995. During the show, HR allegedly hit a skinhead who was goading him on in the head with his microphone stand.

The event resulted in the clocked gentleman getting sent to the hospital and HR getting sent to the Douglas County jail for a couple of weeks. The story even made it onto MTV. The remainder of the tour dates -- alongside Maverick Records labelmates the Deftones -- were canceled, and the band broke up. So it is easy to understand why it's been a while since HR's played Lawrence.

While he's not appearing with his longtime group, HR is making a solo appearance at the Bottleneck on Monday, July 25. His focus has been on reggae as of late, so expect a slightly more sedate show than the back-flipping antics of his old band.
