The Barbershop Harmony Society convention is downtown all weekend

If you've found yourself downtown at all this week, you might have noticed some light poles decorated in swirling red and blue colors, or perhaps walked past a group of oddly dressed middle-aged men singing in perfect harmony with each other. These things are happening because the Barbershop Harmony Society is holding its annual convention/competition at the Sprint Center this week.

The whole thing's open to the public. Most of Friday is the Chorus Contest, where huge choruses from across the globe compete on stage at the Sprint Center. On Saturday at 12:30 pm, there's a Mega Sing at the Power and Light District, which is basically hundreds of barbershoppers forming a gigantic choir and singing together. After that, at 1:30 pm, the Harmony Foundation Presents series brings in former champions and crowd favorites like Storm Front and Rockapella to perform. Capping the evening is the Quartet Finals from 7:30-9:30 pm, after which a champion will be named.

There's actually a ton of other stuff in addition to all that. I've been in and out of these events all week and it's pretty impressive how many activities and events the BHS has put together. More info here
