Welcome to What I Like, our weekly chat with local musicians about their favorite things.
This week: Brian Johnson of KC/DC
KC/DC, the regional AC/DC tribute band, plays the Bon Scott and Brian Johnson periods of AC/DC music. The band slays, shreds and otherwise re-creates the high-energy, stadium-rock anthems for which AC/DC is known and loved.

Favorite local band: (non-cover/tribute) Federation of Horsepower; (cover/tribute) the Zeros, Perpetual Change, Rattle and Hum, Poison Overdose, 90 Minutes, the Shanks … hell, I love 'em all.
Favorite nonlocal band: Well, I’m sure you can guess, but also Ozzy, Sabbath, Metallica, Jackyl, this could go on forever. I think it'd been shorter if you’d asked me who I hated.
All-time fave songs: Again too many to list, but some that may shock you would be like Dobie Gray's "Drift Away," John Lee Hooker, "Boom Boom."
Best recent film I’ve seen: Thor and Captain America. Bring on the f'n Avengers, baby!
Best recent book I’ve read: Why read when you can see the movies in two hours or just read the synopsis on Wikipedia?
Favorite TV show: South Park, The Office and, of course, Pawn Stars 'cause Chum Lee's the shit!
Favorite podcast: Never watch 'em.
Favorite venue: When I’m playin', I love the Power and Light and VooDoo. There’s just so much room to move around on the stage and rock out. But the Brooksider is like Cheers to me. Ya know, everybody knows your name. I’d have to throw FUEL in OP in there, too. All the guys and gals who work there are just the best, and Shawn McClenny, who runs the place, is just one of the coolest guys you could ever know.
Favorite place to eat in Kansas City: Depends on what I’m feelin' like. Love New York Dog Pound on Shawnee Mission Pkwy. The owner, Sal, is just one of the nicest guys you’re gonna meet, but a hidden gem that I love is Sorrento's in Riverside across from Jake’s Firework. Man, it’s like you’re eatin' in the little deli in Goodfellas. Some of the best Italian food I’ve ever had, and Andy and his wife that run the place are some of the best people you’ll ever meet.
Favorite neighborhood in Kansas City: I don’t know. I like my neighborhood. I got the AMC and a hundred different places to eat. The Brookside area is nice, too.
Favorite bar in Kansas City: Tie between FUEL and Brooksider. I guess FUEL in Kansas and Brooksider in Missouri.
Favorite drink: Usually just beer, with an occasional White Russian or Jager Bomb mixed in.
Favorite article of clothing: Ah, probably my cap, 'cause people recognize it. Seriously, you wouldn’t believe how many people don’t recognize me when I’m not wearin' it.
