It was a year ago this month that the Chilean mine collapsed, trapping 33 miners half a mile underground for more than two months. A primary contributor to their rescue was Layne Christensen Company, a locally based drilling company. It's being presented with a Citizen Diplomacy Award for its work in the rescue this Saturday, August 27, at the Rose Theatre at Rockhurst High School. Why am I writing about this on the music blog? Because there'll be some fancy music at the event.
On hand: Chilean jazz vocalist Muza; Trio Aztlan, a local group of jazz performers; and a number of artists from the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance.
Tickets are $25. Purchase here.
