You don't hear much about EBT Restaurant these days.
But it's high time that a new generation discovered EBT, particularly now that two other unique special occasion restaurants of the same vintage — Skies and the Peppercorn Duck Club — are scheduled to close by the end of this year. EBT is also one of the few local restaurants left that still offer Caesar salad prepared tableside and for dessert, Bananas Foster (also created tableside) and steaming, airy dessert souffles. Even better, chef Tate Roberts has created a first-rate dinner menu that's competitively priced. The costliest steak on the menu, this restaurant's signature beef tenderloin medallions in a peppercorn sauce, is $32.95. (But no longer prepared tableside, like the old days). Roberts took off the $80 chateaubriand steak for two a while back. No one was ordering it anymore.
Lee was found shot to death in the 1000 block of Ann Avenue.
Lee, believed by authorities to have strong ties to East Side gangs, was best known for beating three murder raps in eight years. In June, he was sentenced to 120 days of "shock time" for resisting arrest and leading police on a 10-minute, high-speed chase in a Prius.
The Pitch profiled Lee last year.
In a candid November 2010 interview, Lee told The Pitch: "I'm not trying to tell you I have a halo and angel wings. I might have half a wing. I'm not disputing that I'm a street dude, but I'm not this monster they try to say I am. Does it make me a bad guy because I'm from where I'm from?"
Lee was 27.

Do you yearn to rock…ish? You’re in luck! Kansas City's own pseudo-alternative rock, “nu-metal” band Puddle of Mudd will perform at the Midland on December 8. Tickets went on sale Friday. I'm betting you can still purchase a ticket. Support from Halestorm, Adelitas Way, Black Tide, and Landsdowne.

If you've never eaten at restaurateur John David DiCapo's drive-through dining concept, Italian Gardens To Go, you better hurry. Like...now. Today is the final day for the two-year-old venue at 7121 N.W. Barry Road. And DiCapo started giving away free food — spaghetti and meat sauce, lasagna, pizza — at 11 a.m. "We're giving away 150 pieces of lasagna, 80 slices of pizza, Italian steaks," says DiCapo, the son of the iconic Carl DiCapo, longtime co-owner of the Italian Gardens Restaurant at 11th and Baltimore — torn down several years ago and replaced by a parking garage.
DiCapo says he's serving the free food until they've run out of everything. DiCapo says the Barry Road restaurant is closing for several reasons, but primarily because his lease ended today. "We chose not to renew the lease," says DiCapo, "after the expansion of the Quik Trip in the same complex. They blocked our access. I need to find a location where we can be for 50 years. So we're closing up to find a better spot."
Carl DiCapo will be on hand as well, encouraging drive-through diners to put a little cash in two Salvation Army buckets.
The original Roasterie Cafe in Brookside (6223 Brookside Boulevard) celebrated its sixth anniversary on October 18, only four days after a small electrical fire briefly shut down their downtown plant. While you're at the One Nineteen Shopping Center, you can poke your nose into Fo Thai (4331 W. 119th St.), a modern Thai restaurant expected to open there next month.
Tomorrow, that all changes because Midtown Row is offering a new deal — two frozen double-doubles (two beef patties, lettuce, tomato, spread [a cousin to Thousand Island dressing], American cheese and optional onions) for $50, plus $6 shipping and handling [h/t Eater].
So while tonight may be your final night to discover your inner pagan (not to mention a showdown between the Chiefs and the Chargers), odds are you're a bit banged up from the weekend. Anyone actually have a reliable hangover cure?
