Performances from Diverse, Reach (Stacy Smith) and Les Izmore.
Previous installments of the series included “A Vibe Called Fresh” and “A Vibe Called Def," which focused on hip-hop. The new show emphasizes jazz. Reach tells The Pitch that the series was meant to attract the interest of the American Jazz Museum's younger patrons. Before each show, the artists lead short discussions that highlight the connections between hip-hop and jazz, and how the two genres have melded. Eventually, the musicians would like to take these lectures to the college level, Reach says.
Expect to hear original samples from Nas, Jeru the Damaja, Jay-Z, Gangstarr, A Tribe Called Quest, and Dilla.
It all begins at 7 p.m. with a quick pre-show lecture. Cost is $10 for the 21-and-older show.
