The Pitch: Anything special planned for the show?
Goertz-Giffen: Yeah! We're doing a two-set show. Playing a lot of our old numbers, which we haven't done in a while. So, only our most dedicated fans are going to appreciate that, but I think that we'll have a lot of them there. And then, we're going to be DJing our own dance party. We're going to start around 10:30 p.m., and I'm thinking we'll probably be finished by midnight at the latest, and then we're just going to have a dance party. We all like to really carry on afterwards with an after-party in the garage where we practice, so we're just going to get that dance party started a little early.
I assume some members will remain in Lawrence. Any music plans?
There will be no more music made in all of Lawrence. (Laughs.) I mean, we all love to play so much, and I'm sure something will happen.
For those of you leaving, why and where? Will music stay in the mix?
Well, it's pretty much just me, Spencer. I'm moving to California after I graduate from nursing school in May.
I understand that!
I have a lot of family up there. My brother lives in Oakland, and he's a musician. And we might collaborate on something together. I have a lot of musician friends out there. I'm hoping to start something up. And a lot of my family, my cousins, are in a lot of bands. I'll do something. We'll see.
I assume it's something you'd never really want to quit in general because music is contagious.
Actually, my boyfriend is moving with me, and we're in a group called Hello Biplane. We're a folk-pop group here in town in Lawrence. So we'll keep playing, too.
That's awesome!
Yeah.
Do you guys have any favorite shows you've played?
We did this kids' show once at the RecordBar (the band's semi-consensus was the show was a fundraiser of some type). There were parents with their young children. It was still a fun show. We had a bunch of kids come up on stage and play tambourines, and actually, I had a lot of fun at that one.
The Kinetiks, Saturday, March 24. Doors open at 10 p.m., and the show starts at 10:30 p.m., at the Jackpot. Lots of CDs, sweat and fun.
