The MidCoast Takeover is getting plenty of (well-deserved) attention for bringing our area's music scene to South By Southwest, but they're not the only ones presenting Kansas City and Lawrence acts in Austin next week. Replay Records — those fine gents who brought you the Cheap Beercompilation — will have their showcase Thursday, March 15, at the Longbranch Inn. Featuring some of the finest in local Lawrence talent (and a few ringers like Portland's Mean Jeans), the showcase is free and runs from 11 a.m to 6:30 p.m. The full schedule is below.
Bleach Bloodz is well-known locally for its cool-guy garage rock. The band — Troy Diesel (vocals, bass), Vincent Lawhon (vocals, guitar), Jerad Meadows (vocals, drums) — is performing on the Riot Room patio tonight (9 p.m., $7, support from Savage Seven, Cave Girls). Rad!

Welcome to What I Like, our weekly chat with local musicians about their favorite things.
This week: Actors & Actresses. David Sumner (drums), Scott Bennett (bass, synth) and Andrew Schiller (guitar) create smooth, melodic post-rock laced with synth-laden pre-recorded electronic loops.

"The Master of Disaster" Duane Peters rolls into KC Indoor Skatepark.
By: Boonie
Those in attendance for Mike V's Glory Bound Skatepark Tour at the Kansas City Indoor in Merriam Saturday were treated to a literal historical skate session. Attendees and skaters likely paid more than just the $10 price of admission for the lesson in the sweltering heat and humidity, which seemed to increase three-fold after adding a couple hundred of your closest pals, most of them red-faced and sweat soaked with their decks under foot. It was torture enduring the heat, but the payoff was priceless.
Joining Mike V -- aka Mike Vallely -- for this month-long, cross country jaunt are Cyril Jackson, Kristian Svitak, "The Nomad" Bill Danforth, and punk rock legend "The Master of Disaster" Duane Peters.

She was at Mosaic for DJ Rusko's sweaty frenzy. Were you?
By Anthonia Akitunde
We caught an odd assortment of Kansas Citians dancing and sweating their asses off to the dubstep mixing of Rusko Thursday night.
Bespeckled hipsters shook next to fist-pounding brosefs; glow sticks and furry boots were in abundance. But despite their varied appearances, the crowd become one mass of waving arms with each throbbing baseline and electro bleep.
