UPDATE, May 9 at 12:25 p.m.: Apparently, the reunion is in honor of Sonic Spectrum's anniversary, according to Robert Moore's Twitter page. Click here to check it out.

The Golden Republic -- a former Kansas City group made up of members of the Republic Tigers and Soft Reeds, respectively -- has been hinting at a reunion of the band on its Facebook page for several weeks now. (Here's our original post about the rumor here.)

Meanwhile, while trolling RecordBar's listings, we spotted a date: June 25, with Thee Water MoccaSins and Secret Cities.

What acts do you want to see announced at Kanrocksas?

Now that we've got part of the festival's lineup in hand, the folks behind Kanrocksas have stated that they will be announcing more acts as the summer marches on. Currently, there are 14 confirmed acts on Kanrocksas' roster, and Monday's press conference confirmed that there will be about 30 national acts total, once the lineup is filled out.

We're guessing that a large chunk of those acts will be electronica acts playing what's called the "Giant Critical Mass Tent," where international DJs will spin. But what other national acts would you like to see added to Kanrocksas' inaugural lineup? Is there anyone else heading to or from Lollapalooza you'd like to see in KC?

Streetside Records might not close forever, after all

  • Ghosts in the Graveyard played for Streetside on Saturday.

Kansas City had its own Empire Records-style gathering this weekend to save a vinyl institution in Westport. Streetside Records, one of the last remaining record stores in midtown, hosted a series of in-store performances and store-closing clearance bonanzas on Friday and Saturday to keep the music alive.

Rumor has it that Streetside lovers may not have to file their nostalgia away just yet. The store will still be closing on January 23 but is slated to reopen sometime in February. In the meantime, the store plans on having in-store performances every weekend until it closes.

R.I.P., Dave's Stagecoach's jukebox

  • Good old-fashioned jukeboxes are increasingly scarce.

Word on the street is that Dave's Stagecoach's jukebox is a thing of the past.

The vending company has decided to replace the Westport dive bar's beloved jukebox with a TouchTunes, due to troubles with service. (Apparently, Dave's jukebox was one of the only CD boxes left.)

Go visit Dave's jukebox while you can -- play us a boozy tear-jerker, while you're at it. We heard that the last Jukebox Roulette song was "Last One Out," by Joe Henry -- an appropriate farewell for a local tradition.

Streetside Records in Westport closing? (Update: Yes, it's closing)

Streetside Records circa 1980, back when it was called Penny Lane, back when enough people bought records.

Rumor Mill hasn't had a chance to formally investigate yet, but according to two separate, reliable sources, Streetside Records, one of the last independent record stores in the city, is set to announce its closing tomorrow. It's especially sad news for those of us here at the Pitch -- we were birthed in the Westport record store's basement

UPDATE: It's confirmed. Details after the jump.

Is Phish playing the Sprint Center in October? Rumor Mill reports!

  • Maybe so, maybe not.

Phish, the world's most popular jam band, has been back together for a few years now. The band took a hiatus in the early aughts, then did a comeback tour, then said it was quitting for good, but finally was like, "Eh, we're Phish. We'll just do it like the Dead and tour until one of us dies."

Phish last played in the Kansas City area back in 2003. (I was there. I like Phish. Fuck off.) The last few days, I've heard some rumblings, both from the internet and from actual living people, about a tour stop at the Sprint Center in October. But who can you really trust in this world? Rumor Mill, that's who!
