Robert Moore's Sonic Spectrum Tribute Series — usually the last Sunday of the month at RecordBar — took September and October off. It returns next month with a tribute to the Clash. And December and January are already scheduled as well. Here's what's on tap, with some of the scheduled performers.

BRUUUUUUCE!
Know what the other one is? They're both coming to Kansas City in the next few weeks. Huzzah!
Free Energy is tart little rock and roll band from Philly, and they're at RecordBar with the infamous Foxy Shazam on October 21, whose frontman pissed himself onstage last time he was in Lawrence. (We don't make this shit up.) Meanwhile, clean and chipper Ivy Leaguers Vampire Weekend are playing at Starlight this Saturday with Beach House. But they both covered Springsteen's "I'm Going Down" recently. Who did 'er better? Check it out after the jump, and see for yourself.

Kesha: thief.
This is a pro-pop-music blog, but there's undeniably hella thievin' going on in pop music these days. What's worse, nobody seems afraid of getting caught. So we've compiled a list of recent sound-a-like offenders, complete with audio proof.

Portland's Menomena, at the Bottleneck October 12.
They are both exciting live bands, for one. For two, they are both playing Lawrence's Bottleneck in October. For three, they both have new albums coming out soon. For four, they both have made music from those new albums available to people on the internet this week. For five -- there isn't a five. Or maybe there is. Probably you could think of one if you tried hard enough. The thing is, five is a much better number for a list than four. Hopefully you don't feel misled.
