Burt Bacharach's musical magic is your Memorial Day YouTube project

Posted By on Fri, May 24, 2013 at 7:20 PM

The Pitch talked to Kansas City native Burt Bacharach this week, and we came away convinced that the Grammy- and Oscar-winning composer, who turned 85 recently, is as relevant as ever.

Not many songwriters can say that both Elvis Presley ("Any Day Now") and Elvis Costello (who made a whole album, Painted From Memory, co-written with the composer-producer-arranger) have recorded their tunes. Nor can just about anyone else claim to have worked with Neil Diamond, Tom Jones and Dr. Dre (though not all at once).

So when we got done reading Bacharach's new autobiography, Anyone Who Had a Heart, and looking over the track list for his forthcoming six-disc boxed set, we naturally adjourned to YouTube. After the jump, your holiday-weekend homework: our favorite Bacharach moments online.

Horror Remix creator EJ Anttila on the art of the cut

Posted By on Fri, Aug 26, 2011 at 8:00 AM

EJ Anttila's Horror Remix gathered its first area fans at the Studio Movie Grill in Zona Rosa back in April of last year. The series of absolutely terrible horror flicks that were cut down to their entertaining essence — hosted by snarky puppets Cheesecake and Thunderclap — gained a strong audience. Sadly, when the Grill closed last September, Horror Remix was left without a venue. Happily, local fan Adam Jeffers took up the reins and began showing the cut up, trimmed down, and otherwise improved series of films at the Bottleneck back in May. The next installment of Horror Remix, "Horror Remix Is Baked," hits the Bottleneck's screen at 9 p.m Tuesday, August 30. We spoke with creator and remixer Anttilla via e-mail about the art of the cut.

Preview a rough cut video from season 2 of ICWXP

Posted By on Wed, Jun 22, 2011 at 10:38 AM

Local heavy-metal movie-mockery program Incognito Cinema Warriors XP is smack in the middle of filming its second season. In addition to the myriad photos posted to its Facebook page, the show recently posted a rough cut from the first episode, where Rikk and the bots venture away from the lobby set and into the bowels of the Cine-A-Sorrow Theater for some action. It's even gained enough views in the scant couple of weeks that it's been up to become part of the YouTube revenue-sharing program. Check it out below.

New video from Street Eaters (at the Studded Bird on Friday)

Posted By on Mon, Jun 13, 2011 at 3:35 PM

Street Eaters hail from the same Berkeley scene that birthed the likes of Operation Ivy and Green Day, yet the bass-and-drums duo has more in common with angular English punk acts such as the Fall or Wire. The pair of Megan March and John No are touring in support of their debut full-length, Rusty Eyes and Hydrocarbons, due out July 12 on Plan-It-X Records. They bring their fiercely pulsating tunes to the Studded Bird Friday night, where they'll share the bill with KC's own Street Legal.

Christopher Good's new Secret Cities video has +9 charm power

Posted By on Tue, May 17, 2011 at 1:56 PM

Secret Cities' new video is a real tear-jerker.
  • Secret Cities' new video is a real tear-jerker.

Well, this will just break your heart. Local filmmaker Chistopher Good's new video for the Secret Cities song "Always Friends" has been released, and it's the cutest and saddest damn thing you'll see today.

The split-screen video -- Good's first attempt in the medium -- tells the story of a geeky friend who longs for his equally nerdy gal pal who is dating a skeezy-looking guy with a basketball. Though she enjoys battling him in role-playing games, she doesn't like like him. Isn't that always the way?

Everyday/Everynight is part of a video tour for Love Drunk

Posted By on Mon, May 2, 2011 at 10:18 AM

Via Golden Sound Records
Last week Everyday/Everynight recorded a live music video with an independent video crew called Love Drunk. They are on a tour, recording videos of local bands in different cities every day. (If you'd like to hear a two-minute explanation of the project, click here.) Everyday/Everynight was selected to be the band for Kansas City, where it recorded a video for "You Died in a Dream." Here's what the guys said about the shoot:

We recorded the video outside of the Bloch Building at night. It is a pretty great-looking video, and we wanted to share it with The Pitch. We tried to represent Kansas City really well and think we pulled it off.
